The annual calendar is finally finished! We're so excited to present 13 months of beautiful Farm Girls in their natural habitat- on the farm. I think I can speak for all of us when I say this project is a labor of love. It takes many months to plan, shoot, edit, and finally assemble the whole thing. Many of you will notice the most striking departure from last year's calendar; the inclusion of our one "Farm Boy" Will. For those of you adamantly opposed to his appearance in the calendar, we put his one and only pictorial at the end as the January 2012 spokesman. For those in favor, feel free to flip ahead and check out those washboard abs. Will's not the only one who showed a little (well planned, fairly modest) skin. This year also highlights Farm Girl veterans Katie, MC, Lindsay, Amber, and Sarah and newcomer Ashley.

The calendar really started as a joke but its become a tradition that celebrates our "woman-ness" in a traditionally manly profession. While we take this project lightly, it does help us raise some serious funds for those infrastructure things we might not otherwise afford. Last year's effort helped our new farm truck become a reality (post coming soon) and this year we're eyeing some tractor implements to help with planting pig-specific forages. They're not too racy for work and fun for everyone, grandmas and younger brothers alike. They'll set you back $18 each and can be autographed if desired. Can pigs smile?

Everything about the pigs these days says happy, happy, happy. They've emerged from near-hibernation in the heavy summer heat to a life of constant activity rediscovering their pasture, wrestling with each other, and of course, making trouble.
The pigs pictured here are pushing 225 lbs of porcine muscle, perfect for upending shade structures and chewing through feed tubs, but these kinds of things are expected and planned for. It's hard to be too frustrated when we look up from structure repairs to see them barking and staging foot races around us.

We've been hard at work on something super fun lately... the 2011 Farm Girls calendar! Everyone looks amazing and the shoots have been really fun, despite some technical challenges. For example, how do you make August look like November? Outside of a professional studio, there might not be a good answer. We've just done our best to theme each month appropriately, even if we can't conjure up fall foliage or a chilling fog. Also, our current Farm Girl roster includes a farm boy you've probably seen at market; Will French the egg guy. Should we include him in the calendar? We have an extra month without a spokesperson, but some of us don't think a boy belongs in the girls' calendar. Others of us feel that he's a "farm girl" so he should have to take off his clothes just like the rest of us. If you have an opinion, help us out and take the poll to the left- we're really in a deadlock on this one.
So far, we've got 8 shoots down with 6 more to go. Among the completed ones are yours truly with sweet potatoes and lambs, Sarah with watermelons and corn, MC in a canning how to (or how not to), Ashley with our lovely milk goats, and Lindsay cooling off with the pigs. Still left to do are the cover, fence repairs, bucking hay, chickens & ducks, tractor repair, and hopefully a special surprise pictorial.
Like last year's calendar we're planning another with 13 months and a stunning cover, but this time on premium recycled paper. Look for it at market, on the online markets, and on our website in late September and enjoy these outtakes in the meantime:
